RI House Republicans Submit Legislation On PawSox Stadium Funding

Published on Apr 12, 2017

The House Republican Caucus is submitting legislation that would require the Rhode Island Commerce Corporation to submit any financial negotiations with any sports entity.

The intent is bring forth any finance agreements that must be submitted to the Rhode Island General Assembly for final approval.

Senate Republicans did add support.

In 2016, Rhode Island overwhelmingly rejected the proposal to build a new stadium for the new multi-millionaire owners of the PawSox franchise. “Rhode Island taxpayers have already voiced their opinion, and it was a resounding “No”. The offer to now let the taxpayers own the new stadium does not alter that fact.” said Representative Mendonça, the prime sponsor of the bill.
